Trans woman deported to Central African Republic describes hiding her identity

Federal

AP reported on October 8 that U.S. authorities deported Daniela Fuentes, a Cuban trans woman, to the Central African Republic on August 29. She says she now conceals her identity and lacks documents permitting work. Fuentes also described detention with men and confiscation of her wig. ICE did not answer AP’s questions.

The U.S. government says the policy is lawful and receiving countries provide protection assurances. Her account underscores the human stakes of third-country deportations for trans people.
