UN experts press Uganda on anti-LGBTQ law’s impact on children
Members of the United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child have questioned Uganda about how the country’s Anti-Homosexuality Act affects children. The review raised concerns about discrimination, reporting requirements, and whether young people can safely seek support.
International scrutiny matters, but it does not make the danger disappear. Uganda’s punitive legal environment continues to put LGBTQ and gender-nonconforming people at risk, including young people.
Scorecard impact: Uganda was fully regraded in this update. Severe legal and physical-safety scores of 5 and 8 create an overriding hard warning; higher affordability and English-access values do not cancel that danger. The equal-weight baseline is 30.9.
