Saddle Lake Cree Nation pursues a Treaty 6 gender-affirming-care refuge
Saddle Lake Cree Nation in Alberta says it is asserting Treaty 6 health-care rights and jurisdiction to pursue a refuge for gender-affirming care on its reserve lands, including for trans and Two-Spirit youth. Reporting says leaders plan to recruit clinicians in response to Alberta’s restrictions affecting some young people’s care.
This could become an important route to care, but it is an announced jurisdictional and operational plan—not confirmation that a clinic is open or that its legal effect has been resolved. Canada’s country scores therefore remain unchanged.
