Norway asylum proposal: support for trans Americans is not an enacted fast-track

Europe, Norway

Research update: 12 October 2026. Proposal announced: 31 March 2025.

Norway’s Green Party, MDG, called for a special visa fast-track and asylum protection for trans people fleeing persecution in the United States. Its published resolution was adopted on 30 March 2025. This is a party proposal, not proof that a new route has been enacted or that an individual application will succeed.

Norway’s immigration authority, UDI, says protection depends on persecution or a fear of persecution or inhumane treatment. An ordinary asylum application must be made in Norway or at its border. In an April 2025 parliamentary answer, the justice minister confirmed that UDI and UNE assess individual cases. No special route for trans Americans was verified in this review.

Score review: Norway’s immigration score remains 50/100. A proposal alone does not justify increasing practical immigration access. See Norway’s profile and practical limits.
