New York City proposes funding gender-affirming care for minors
New York City published an October 6 intent-to-award notice for gender-affirming care for patients under 18. The Health Department plans to negotiate with Callen-Lorde and NOPI, estimating a total procurement value of $8,879,218. Services would include medically necessary puberty blockers and hormone therapy, with licensed providers and parental consent consistent with state law. The notice lists a proposed February 1, 2027 start and June 30, 2029 end, describes the term as three years, and invites other vendors to express interest by October 16. This is a procurement proposal, not an executed contract or evidence that new services have begun. Public funding could help protect trans young people's access to care, but practical capacity and implementation remain unconfirmed.
