Indian clinician survey raises concern about trans healthcare access

India

In an October 5 Queerbeat interview, psychiatrist Kavita Arora described preliminary findings from an Indian Mental Health Alliance survey about the Trans Amendment Act and healthcare. She said the survey had roughly 150–160 responses across India, concentrated in Delhi, Karnataka and Maharashtra, and about 76 percent of respondents believed the amendment substantially reduced trans people's access to care. Arora warned that uncertainty about certification and reporting was discouraging providers. These are respondents' views and a clinician's account, not a representative measurement of nationwide service closures. The report raises serious concerns about privacy, trust and practical access; it does not establish that all gender-affirming care is prohibited.
