HRC urges candidates to defend trans people as it mobilizes voters
Federal
Human Rights Campaign president Kelley Robinson urged Democratic candidates to defend transgender people rather than use anti-trans campaign messaging, in an interview published by theGrio on October 6. She described Black and LGBTQ voters as sharing stakes in civil-rights protections and called for stronger coalitions.
Robinson said HRC had invested $15 million in mobilizing more than 25 million LGBTQ voters. Those figures are her account of the organization’s work, not independently verified turnout or reach. Her appeal is an advocacy response to anti-trans attacks; it does not establish a new law, court ruling or restored protection.
Trans people deserve political representation that defends their rights and addresses practical needs, including affordable healthcare and housing.
