Federal education release drops gender-identity bullying data
A new federal release of school civil-rights data omitted nonbinary enrollment figures and information about bullying tied to gender identity that had previously been collected. The removal makes it harder for families, advocates, and researchers to see where transgender and nonbinary students are being harmed.
Data erasure does not erase the students affected. It weakens accountability at a moment when reliable information about school safety is especially important.
Scorecard impact: No direct score change. This is a serious national transparency setback, but it does not itself change a state’s enacted protections.
