Court dismissal ends federal challenge to Indiana youth-care ban
A federal court has dismissed the ACLU of Indiana’s challenge to Senate Enrolled Act 480, the state law that bars puberty blockers, hormone therapy, and surgeries for transgender people under 18 while allowing some of the same treatments for other diagnoses.
The constitutional claim was dropped after the U.S. Supreme Court’s 2025 decision in United States v. Skrmetti. WFYI reports that the dismissal formally ends this case and prevents its claims from being refiled under current federal law. The ruling does not mean the care is harmful; it means this federal challenge no longer blocks Indiana’s discriminatory restriction.
Indiana’s ban remains in force. The dismissal confirms its present legal durability but does not show that every possible future legal challenge is exhausted.
