Colombian government backs proposed ban on gender-affirming care for minors
Colombian President Abelardo de la Espriella and his government have publicly backed the proposed “Ley Laura,” which would prohibit puberty blockers, hormone therapy, and gender-affirming surgeries for minors and sanction clinicians who recommend covered treatments.
The bill has been introduced in Congress but is not law. Executive support makes the threat more serious, especially because the proposal seeks to roll back rights recognized by Colombia’s Constitutional Court. Colombia’s country scores remain unchanged until legislation or another durable legal or practical change takes effect, but the proposal now requires closer monitoring.
