California directs providers to state funding for trans youth care

California

California guidance sets out a state-only funding route from October 13 for specified gender-affirming medications and surgery for Medi-Cal members under 18 and CHIP members under 19. HCAI directs providers with scheduled surgery or puberty-blocker services to contact it and says services should not be canceled or patients redirected. Existing hormone therapy may continue through Medi-Cal until April 12, 2027; that transition does not cover puberty blockers, surgery or newly started hormone therapy. Other listed services, including visits and laboratory tests, remain with Medi-Cal. HCAI says further medication access information is forthcoming. This is a funding plan, not proof that every patient has uninterrupted care. Keeping a payment path matters for trans young people facing federal cuts.
